Your server.cfg file controls how your FiveM server boots, how many players it allows, how it synchronizes the world and which resources it loads. Getting it right is the foundation of a stable server. This guide explains every essential FiveM server.cfg setting in 2026, with a copy-paste example you can adapt.

License & identity

  • sv_licenseKey — your free cfx.re key. The server will not start without it.
  • sv_hostname — the name shown in the FiveM server browser (emojis and color codes are supported).
  • sv_projectName / sv_projectDesc — modern metadata shown on your server's info card.
  • sets tags — comma-separated keywords that help players find your server (e.g. roleplay, esx, economy).
  • load_server_icon — a 96x96 PNG shown next to your server name.

Players & OneSync

OneSync is what lets a FiveM server go beyond the legacy 32-player limit and synchronize entities reliably. For any modern roleplay server you want it on:

sv_maxclients 64 # 1-2048 depending on OneSync tier
set onesync on # enable OneSync
set onesync_enableInfinity 1 # needed for 64+ players

More slots is not always better. Each slot consumes CPU and bandwidth — size sv_maxclients to your hardware and real population, not your ambition.

Endpoints (networking)

Endpoints tell FXServer which port to listen on. The default is 30120, which must be open for both TCP and UDP on your firewall/host:

endpoint_add_tcp "0.0.0.0:30120"
endpoint_add_udp "0.0.0.0:30120"

ensure vs start vs restart

Use ensure to load resources. ensure is safer than start because it stops-then-starts a resource if it is already running, and respects dependencies. The order matters: a resource must be listed after anything it depends on.

ensure oxmysql # database first
ensure es_extended # framework second
ensure my_job_script # depends on es_extended -> loads after it

ACE permissions (admins)

ACE (Access Control Entries) is FiveM's permission system. Grant a group commands, then assign your identifier to that group:

add_ace group.admin command allow
add_principal identifier.fivem:1 group.admin
# also supports identifier.license:, identifier.discord:, identifier.steam:

Useful convars

  • sv_enforceGameBuild — lock a specific GTA build (e.g. 2944) so DLC content and MLOs load correctly.
  • sv_scriptHookAllowed 0 — keep ScriptHook disabled to block many cheats.
  • sv_master1 "" — leave default to list on the server browser, or blank to hide.
  • set steam_webApiKey — optional, enables Steam identifiers.
